Book review by Pia Thadani - Stitches N Scraps

If you love the look of knit fabric, but don't want to knit, Tunisian crochet may be for you! Great Tunisian Crochet Projects is full of lovely things to make with just a few simple stitches.

The beginning of the book takes you through some basic stitches in both crochet and Tunisian crochet. It's a clear, nicely illustrated section that also explains how to make and connect simple Tunisian blocks.

The very first section of patterns after the intro is mainly afghans. If this is your first time doing Tunisian, I would actually recommend starting with the smaller projects at the back of the book. The very last pattern is a super cute belt, that's a great way to get started!

Some of the projects combine traditional and Tunisian crochet. My favorite of these is the Little Poppies afghan, with its colorful blocks, a pretty picot edge, and flower appliques.

  1. I've done larger (afghan) Tunisian projects, but never small ones, so this book looks interesting!

  9. I've made a couple of tunisian crochet projects. One was a really cute baby blanket for a friend. I'm currently working on a blanket for my daughter using tunisian crochet that is worked in panels, stitched together and then an overlay created on the blanket. She requested it specially and is going to love it!

  12. I'd love to win this book and be able to make a couple of projects from it and post them..Tunisian crochet is so simple and fun even for someone like myself with osteoarthritis in my fingers almost to the point of them not working at times but I'm determined to keep exercising them by crocheting daily and the Good Lord's help.
